just wanted to say how proud me and the other alumni are of you all today. Though we weren't physically on stage with you guys, we felt your nervousness and anxiety. Maybe the results weren't as expected, but i enjoyed myself listening to you guys today, and i really hope you enjoyed yourselves performing for us, and for yourselves.

words can't describe how i felt after sinfonia.. it was really spectacular, and i loved the last part. (: i hope that after this, you'll have learnt so much more, and keep striving for excellence.

Dear senior band clarinetists,

It is officially 19 more days to our big day. I'm sure it has been a long and tiring journey preparing towards it. Nevertheless, I'm sure the sense of satisfaction you achieve after each time of music-making is satisfying and rewarding.

Now that band camp is over, I believe you guys can feel the intensity towards syf by now. The kind of atmosphere you have playing in the hall, it would be probably 100 times more tensed in SCH. However, I'm happy to say that I see most of you enjoying yourselves in the process of music-making with the band. Even though you guys are not the section with the best intonation, the section that has the best technical ability, the section with the most musicality etc etc, I see all of you trying. I see every single member putting in your heart and soul in every music-making process and that is what I want to see.

Sinfonia Festiva is a very challenging piece and it certainly wouldn't have been possible for you guys to have improved so much within such a short period of time without all of your hardwork. If the section can survive such a great downfall together, I'm sure we can do it. Remember when we had the talk, I told you guys to take a leap of faith and believe that the section can improve together as long as all of us have the same mindset? I would like to thank you all for believing in each other and not giving up.

After this band camp, I hope that the spirit of the section will continue. We have got 1 masterclass, 2 more mini syfs and it's the real big day. No matter how much more is there to conquer in the next 19 days, we will all face it together. I just want to take this chance and remind some of you that if you are criticised by the conductors or anyone on ur playing within this period of time, this is extremely normal. This just means that people have expectations of you and they believe that you can do better. That is why they care. So think about everything on the bright side, alright?

Take these two days and have a good rest. PLEASE(emphasis needed!!) rest well and drink plenty of water. You guys need to be physically fit so that you wouldn't miss out anything too. (: We still have a lot more to work on but that will be done after your short break (:

For the 4th year in this section, I can't say how much I feel for the section. Neither can i explain the kind of mixed feelings within me that I'm left with 19 days for my band journey with AMKSS band. Even though this is part and parcel of life, I hope that we will enjoy every single moment of what's left together.

Keep striving and we will touch the finishing line together (:

Weilin's reflection: Pride, Discipline and Honour

Hey guys, here's another post for the POP yesterday evening.

First off, it was a fantastic memory for me, and it was everything i've worked for for the past 4 years.

Though the parade was pretty much a disaster, i believe we've all gained something from it. I'm not here to pick on the mistakes we made, but rather to let you all remember what you've learnt from it. POP is to showcase what you've learnt, as sec 1s and 2s in your drills, as well as to train your discipline and togetherness. It wasn't as good as the batches before, but i believe that you all have learnt at least something, and put it to good use in the following years to come.

I was filled with pride when i saw everyone march off and weixiang throwing the mace and catching it. My journey is officially over, and i hope that at least i've taught you all a little something. Recollection band was something, where graduating members will play from important events. But i did feel the need to get some important sec 3s to play along, as they've played an important part to fill up the gaps which missing members left. And i'm glad we still had fun, reminiscing about the JBF, Limelight 2008, AYG, and finally Tasmania.

You all have no idea how much you all have impacted my life, and how much i've gained from you all. The pride the whole batch felt when we threw the blazers is truly a reflection of how much we've worked through the 4 years.

I hope that the batches after mine will continue to feel the same pride, after putting in the same, or even more, effort into band. Enjoy band, and stay strong you guys. (:

We'll always be rooting for you all.

Hi clarinets!

So POP 2010 is over.

Before I leave Singapore tonight, I would like to say a few things...

Today officially mark the end of the band journey of our dearest sec 4s too.

First and foremost, I want to congratulate Weixiang for getting the Best Cadet Award and Justin for getting the Best Recruit award. I was really excited and happy for you guys. Felt really proud that you guys have done the section proud. I'm very sure every single member in the section felt the same way, even the alumni who were there as well (hi sharlyn, yuqing & joey) :)

Congratulations Weixiang! For your awesome mace work as well :) I bet everyone was feeling the tension and excitement for you. Haha :)

Secondly, I want to thank all the sec 4s. I don't have the luxury of time to thank every single sec 4 individually, cuz I'm actually competing with time right now. Hahaha.

Thank you Weixiang, Weilin, Demi and Devin. For everything that you guys have taught and passed down to us. For all the fun, joy and laughter.

All of us with different characters could actually get along so well for several years. Which is truly amazing :)

Thank you for being there for us through all the ups and downs in band.

I didn't shed a single tear today not because I didn't feel sad or anything.

I didn't know how to say goodbye words to the sec 4s... Haha, just in case if you all don't know, I suck at expressing such stuff.

Especially when I feel super touched/sad etc, I don't know how to express it...

But my heart was wrenching throughout.

When we starting playing the recollection band pieces, I really felt like... That's it, this is the band that I'm going to miss playing in.

I really felt like tearing when I read letters from our graduating seniors. While listening to the wonderful music we once made together...

But I know that this is part of life and we've got to learn how to let go.

Nevertheless, I hope that our lives somehow still intersect one way or the other. And you guys will not feel shy coming back as alumni! Cuz the door is ALWAYS opened for you all :)

Thirdly, I want to thank the graduating seniors for having the faith in me that I can bring the section to greater heights and pick it up from where it dropped. I'm not sure if I can, but I would assure you guys that I would try my best. As long as I'm still around for a day, I would not give up :) To lead every single junior to the right path and let every single one of them enjoy music making. Just like how you guys did it :)

Fourthly, great job to all juniors. To sec 2s, you guys have finally completed drills. It might be a good thing to some of you. But I'm sure you guys would definitely miss doing drills :)

To the sec 1s, I hope you guys are inspired by the good role models in your section! And strive to become like them. Perhaps one day I would see one of you throwing the mace too, haha.

To round this post off, POP 2010 ended off on a high note!

We didn't have to use tears to show how much we can't bear to leave each other. Cuz I'm sure we all know it deep down in our hearts.

At least I do :) I hope to see the graduating seniors coming back as alumni as much as you guys can :D For the future band camps, pops etc :)

Lastly, I hope to see all of you for the section outing on the 29th Nov!

And 30th nov for the band picnic.

Hey, in the midst of doing whatever you're doing wherever you are, I hope everyone is doing well. And Selamat Hari Raya to Onisha and of course to everybody:)

The last jbf was really fantastic. I thought it was really cool that we all shared the same pride when we heard the AMKSS jb on stage, enjoying themselves. Haha. I believe it also made us remember our own jbfs and to the sec3s, you must feel damn proud. Lol. Work hard, sec2s and 1s, there are lots of things to look forward to after eoys.

Although there were many changes to the band and section the past months, everyone would have become closer through the many events. Even though there are many problems and so on, always remember that you have friends, band mates and seniors to lie back on. Don't ever give up and keep moving. Eventually even if you have not reached where you set out to go, you will still end up somewhere in between. As the band becomes better and better, don't ever forget to be grateful to the people who have changed your lives.

It's time to study for your end of years, so don't slack off. Whenever you find it difficult to cope with anything in life, always do remember that there is someone out there who is going through much more difficult things than you are. End of years and O's are not a big deal, but take full responsibility for yourself to do it well. And I seriously can't wait to prepare for pop tgt:)

JBF 2010

Junior Band Festival 2010 rounded off on a high note!
Just like what I've messaged you guys, wrote in your long letters, wrote on my fb status, told you all personally: I'm super proud of all of you. I've never expected myself to being able to experience this.

This experience is really unforgettable. Perhaps like what Sharlyn told me: It's a process of harvesting crops.

I don't know what word to use to fill in the blank. My seniors who have been through this... there isn't a word to fill in right? Hahaha. My experience this JBF is really different compared to my very own JBF. My 2nd and last memorable JBF. :) I shan't share it here because this isn't my personal space to blog.

My dear sec 1s,
We've all started off with a large section of 10 people. Today, the 11 sept, many people have left due to various reasons. Now, we have a section of 5 members standing. After this wonderful experience of music making, I'm sure you guys are having an overwhelming passion for band. Keep working all the way. The real one has yet to kick in. If you've read my letter properly, I'm sure you would get what I mean. :)

Also, my heartfelt appreciation towards ALL seniors who came down to support the junior band! Inclusive of the old alumni (like sharlyn, joey) :)
All these wouldn't have been made possible w/o all of your consistent support. Thank you very much. :)

I never really posted in this section blog before... So I would like to take this chance to sum up a few things.
It has been 4 months since the limelight performance, 4 months since the sec 4s officially stepped down from their duties. In this short period of 4 months, it seemed like a really long yet quick time. (contradicting?) I shall not elaborate on that but in these happening 4 months, I'm sure all of you bound to have grown a little here and there(not physically though).

After the limelight concert, there was MTDC'09/10 graduation concert, NOMAD perf, hosted Australian band for workshop, Awards Night Ensemble performance, Band dinner, YPSB concert, Masterclass, YOG, MTDC 2nd batch ensemble performance and finally the JBF that just took place. Of course, in between here and there, there were quite a number of things too. Basically, these are the more happening ones. I'm sure you guys didn't realise how much we have done in these mere 4 months.

As the SL for the past 4 months, I can't say that I did a good job or anything like that. I want to take this chance to thank each and everyone of you for giving me a chance to really get used to being an SL. Without your faith in me and cooperation, things would have been much worse off.
Certainly, we aren't the best section in the band, might be currently the weakest section of the band, isn't the most bonded section, might be the most segregated section etc etc...
I'm sure things would get better if everyone just puts in the same amount of effort.

A man is not finished when he is defeated. He is finished when he quits.
So to those who felt really demoralized over the past 4 months, don't ever give up.

Alright, this is a really really wordy post. I hope you guys didn't die reading it, I shall continue another time. So I shall end it off with a quote that never failed to inspired me: Winning doesn't always mean being first, winning means you're doing better than you've done before-

Dear guys,

its been 3 days since i've graduated, and i've alr started missing you guys. ): 4 years really pass in the blink of an eye.. Definitely the greatest thanks i will give is to sharlyn, because she's been there supporting me and of course, the whole section, throughout the years even though now she's graduated. She taught me how to be selfless, how to be responsible, how to care for this section, and most of all, how to be a good person. (:

Just like how mr tan mentioned at the band dinner on Friday, we definitely should thank our seniors because they've got us this far. Though the rest of my seniors have left long ago, i feel there's no other appropriate time to thank them. Especially Sharlyn's batch (Shar, Yuqing,Joey Yeeyong, Rachel) and Pupeng's batch(Pupeng, Laura, Joanna, Esther). (: i'm sure the rest of the sec 4s agree with me.

For the sec 3s, you only have 1 more year to hold on. Treasure it, and treasure it well, because time flies, and soon it'll be your turn to graduate too. Sec 2s, this is mainly the transition year for you guys, and don't think of giving up! You can make it, as long as you believe. Moreover, this is just the beginning of the fun stuff like ypsb(for some), YOG, SYF, and of course probably overseas trip again. (: The sec 1s, if you all are reading this, welcome to the start of your hectic band periods from JBF on, and jiayou! See you guys at POP! (:

Band really taught me alot, especially my seniors, whom have left a different imprint each in my heart and mind, and i hope that the 4 of us here graduating have left 4 different imprints in yours too. I'll definitely come back to visit from time to time when i need a break from studying, and to give you all the moral support and help in anyway i can whether band life, studies, or personal life. Jiayou AMKSS Clarinet Section! Continue to carry the section further where each of the batches left off.

Hello Everybody,
Fellow AMKSSclarinetists who still read this blog,

I am Sharlyn, the old woman.
As i browsed through the pictures posted on Facebook , pictures of Our very dear Weilin, Weixiang, Devin and Demi's Band Dinner, their night, it was kind of like.. a journey to the past. Memories relived.(not sure it's the right word to use.)

Anyway, it has been one year since i attended MY Farewell Band Dinner, 8 Months since i am no longer part of AMKSS, but true enough, feelings for our Clarinet Section is still v strong.

Maybe it's because of the people who have walked me through my band journey, or just the instrument itself, or maybe the music we made,
Years after year, seniors that have graduated, still miss AMKSSclarinetsection, maybe one of the most beautiful part of our life in band.

I've seen a few batches of seniors graduating, and now i'm seeing my juniors graduating.
And batch after batch, Seniors and Juniors cant bear to leave each other. Be it for .. the friendship, the dependency or for practical reasons, it is just great for graduating Band members to finally know what the conductors have been thinking of u, receive letters sincerely written by YOUR juniors, on how thankful they are for your presence in Band on Band Dinner.

And as much as how our seniors have made our band life fruitful and fun, Juniors who have written these letters, they dont know how much they mean to us (the elderly).

So today, me too, thank Welin WeiXiang Devin and Demi, for their contributions to AMKSSBand, AMKSSClarinets, and last but not least, for making who i am today (not v successful, but ya.)

And really really proud of every single AMKSSClarinetists (old and young), because ALL of usm have brought AMKSSClarinet Section to a higher level, Year fter Year.

May our juniors and seniors love each other always, and catch up with you all soon.

Hey guys.

It's 1 week of school before Tasmania. I have no idea how to put everything in words at this time, so bear with me for the randomness. Well, there's just to much to fill in...

'What you get by reaching your destination is not as important as what you become by reaching your destination.' - Dr. Robert Anthony; writer. I want you to know that this competition we're preparing so, so hard for, is something that is a chance for this batch of people going there to experience what is truly like to be a performer, a musician. The championship, whatever we get after reaching our destination is never as important as the vision that we'll have become better, as a person, as a performer and as a band after going through the process.

True music is what feelings sound like. And a true performer is one that will present music to anyone, be it anywhere, anytime. Undoubtedly, it's of utmost importance (x 10000000000) to practice, but the purpose of playing music is to make all audiences feel from our music. I'm very sure this purpose was not there yesterday during the exchange, unless any of the pieces was supposed to be expressing fear or anxiety, then we would have achieved our goal.

Any performer would feel adrenaline rushes on stage, yet the most difficult yet only goal on stage is to cope with this anxiety, communicate with everyone through the music and lastly, to express. On stage, relax, be confident, feel what you need to express and let your feelings touch the souls of your audience through music. The seniors have all experienced this on stage in SYF, and the juniors too at JBF, so I believe we are able to relive this experience as performers if we make an effort to. If we've practiced this hard for real perfection, when it's the real thing, we cannot happily let stage fright eat away the confidence and hardwork everyone has put in. Is it fair to those who really made an effort to control their anxiety? Definitely not. We are one band, with so many people. One person feeling anxiety can make the whole band anxious. Just like how enthusiasm can spread, fear can spread too.

Life still goes on after performance, you still have to sleep, eat, school, etc. 'Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.' - Berthold Auerbach. So since it is a passion, enjoy it, enjoy the time on stage, don't rush through it because you only have 10 minutes on stage after 10 years of preparation.

'We learn wisdom from failure much more than from success. We often discover what will do by finding out what will not do; and probably he who never made a mistake, never made a discovery.' Samuel Smiles, writer. This is for the sec2s. If any of the seniors haven't made 1001 mistakes in the past, they wouldn't have been good now. All of you make mistakes, but if you don't practice enough yourself, where do the mistakes come from? Only if you practice, you make a lot of mistakes, change it, then you'll be better and better. That's one, but for some of you, after you made mistakes, you repeat them because you are not thinking and mature enough, enough to be responsible and understand that since you've made a mistake, you know what it's like and by doing the opposite you will not repeat it again. Maturity is important in band. I truly hope that some of you start to think and reflect more, be more responsible on your part. You are not juniors anymore, you will be seniors in time to come. You may be known as a senior, but deep inside this kind of maturity, playing and attitude is definitely not enough to match up.

Last one. And the most important of all. 'One Band, One Sound' - AMKSS Band. We're a band that IS going to Tasmania. As one band, individuals put away all differences and we work, play, and lastly, perform as one with one sound, one music at any one time. One Sound means we convey one feeling on stage at one moment, and I hope that this wouldn't be anxiety. It's 8 days left to the trip. We have all the support from our alumni, teachers and conductors, fellow bands like commonwealth and our friends. I hope that at this last week we can clean up every little single part, have one commitment as one band and when it's time on stage, really

be performers.

hey guys, here's the update on our SL's birthday just now.

okay, so it started when i discussed the plans with chenning justin and devin, cos the rest were busy. so ya, chenning thought of the whipped cream. so we got everything ready by tuesday, just to be cancelled cos of junk jam and alot can't make it.

so we did it today. the original plan was to tell weixiang that me, benjamin and tingrui eat lunch with wx, then go to amk library to study. so while we ate, the rest of the section will gather and get ready the cake and stuff. but wx was tipped off by tengkiat(our classmate who was tipped off by someone else in the band) so he kept suspecting me. luckily tingrui went back to get the whipped cream. haha.

next step. we were at the bus stop waiting for the bus but somehow tingrui and ben couldn't open the cap and wx saw it. so he ran, and we ran and we sprayed, but i think that the cream melted alr, became liquid =.= so yeah, JUSTIN LUI had to be so kaypoh and butt in, spraying me as well. just then the whole section rushed over to sing wx a happy birthday song! aww so touching eh. hahaha. so yeah, that's about it. a bit more chasing then we cut the cake.

since there was extra cake as the sec4s left early, we used it to smash weixiang's face! haha, nice one! until weixiang decide to get me and chenning back. so the 3 of us kena the cake like siao. hhaha, so much for working so hard for his birthday! tsk. next time we don't plan alr lo. Montana University exchange, NYW Concert, section bbq and SCHOOL(-.-)

Hi all,

After so many events, let's come down-to-earth again: this is the last week of the month-long June holidays (such a wet blanket =.=).

Haha. Recently about the National Youth Winds concert, I'm glad and thankful most of you turned up at the hall not just to support our friends and treat it like an outing, but also to spend quality time listening to a good band (though not excellent), and gain some insights and experience. I hope all of you are inspired by the performance put up, and we can aim towards the kind of music excellence and understanding as a section in time to come. Then of course, lets not forget the effort Weilin put in to organise the outing before the concert. Btw thank you for the gifts :D

Taking time a little back to the exchange @ Xinmin with the schools and Montana University... Personally I think it was an extremely fruitful learning experience with the clarinet teacher and faculty members, and of course with the orchestra. I believe all of us have learnt something from Greg, Emily and the bass clarinettist (i forgot his name, lol). Of course I hope what has been learnt will come into good use and application in your individual playing and overall improvement as a section. The performance put up by the orchestra was yet another exposure to all, given that we don't usually have such a good full orchestra in Singapore. They have a huge repertoire that I believe was a wide-opener for all, including concertos, etc. And if you noticed, they are very professional, which I think all of us should learn from. Every performance to them, no matter in which place is treated seriously, and in any rehearsal you can see them giving 100% full focus and attention, so no time is wasted. I believe the undivided attention in their music making comes from a great deal of discipline and the crave for enjoyment through their music; and this is what we must all aim towards.

And the latest happening- SECTION BBQ! It was definitely a success and I believe everyone had fun playing, bbqing, and running around barefooted. Then again, without the help of everyone, it wouldn't have been a success, especially Qianyi and Weilin, who helped out a great deal in planning the bbq and booking of the area. And of course, those who played a part in preparing the food, and eating the food (lol). However, please remember, when its time for fun, play hard; when its time to work, work hard; and when its time to study, study hard. There's a time and place for everything. The same goes for everything.

Lastly, I'm ending this post here with a countdown to school: 5 more days. Like I said, when its time to study, study hard and focus. When its time for band practice, focus on everything you should. This is the formula to success. There will be much more tougher challenges awaiting all of us. If we are able to find enjoyment and not just go through this hectic phase of band life, everyone of us will come out an even better person afterall. Think positive.

Hi. Weixiang here, and thank you for the congratulations (:

Well, my first time post here and exams are over for quite some time now. Band has once again resumed, and definitely there's some emptiness felt without some of the sec 4s. :\ Nonetheless, things have to go on as usual, and be assured the coming period is a tough, but fun one. No doubt this is and will be a very demanding period of time for all of us, especially the sec 2s, given you have such a (super) packed schedule of never ending band practices and so many drill practices and POP rehearsals for the sec 1s and 2s, but we have to learn to enjoy ourselves in the midst of the process, and we have to go through thick and thin together as a section and band. Sounds cliche, but I've heard one too many laments about having so many events after SYF, so many drill practices for the sec 1s and 2s. But remember, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Band is not all about hardwork, not all about punishments during drills, and not all about making your self seen during band practice. The key word is together. Having fun, making music, feeling high, feeling down, together. The seniors: After having been through SYF I'm pretty sure all of us have improved character-wise in some way; some of us have experienced the feeling of enjoying music together, and many more. So do hang in there, what we're going to go through is yet another phase in band, and that all these was in exchange for sweat and determination during SYF. Think about it, we've worked so hard for the previous months in the name of enjoyment, some of us, no doubt, for the title. But if we are going to face the coming days and months with the wrong perspective, it is pretty much contradicting. Defintely the name of AMKSS band has travelled pretty far, and people do expect alot from this bunch of people. And having the right perspective to things play an important role in moving our section and band forward. Leadership is important, but without motivation, things do not work; just like how steering the wheel is important to avoid obstacles like ice bergs and head for the right direction on sea, but without the engine in the ship, nothing happens and nobody moves. We're like this big ship at sea, and motivation needs to come from everyone, before the ship can even move.

I believe there are alot of ups and downs in life, and for studies it is no exception. In competitions, there is always a win and a lose. But right now, for those who are very bothered by poor results, the competition is within you. Take on another perspective- instead of crying over spilt milk, brew another cup :) Parents might be nagging at you to study, study and study, but note, its for your own good. Look at the long run, everything in life we emphasize on foundation, and of course studies are no different. Discipline yourself and push yourself to the best you can for the next examination. You'll open up alot of doors to your future if you are able to produce results. Learn to enjoy what you do, makes things much easier. Exams are just mere milestones and benchmarks to mark your achievements, slipups here and there in your Maths paper doesn't mean you haven't learnt anything about algebra. Likewise, for band it applies the same too.

For the sec 1s: Your first upcoming major event is the PassingOutParade. This is your first time having the POP. You will find things tiring, difficult, unbearable, and whatever-you-can-name. If you can endure drills, trust me, you'll be able to endure almost anything in life. This is because discipline comes from within, when you have discipline, you will be able to survive anything when you go into society. You have discipline, you learn to respect. You have discipline, you know what to do at the right time and place, and what you ought not to do. So, the key here to almost every gate is discipline. You will find marching and drills fun in due course, once you understand what is the purpose of drills and POP. So, buck up on your drill practices, and I hope to see full attendance and attention in the coming drill practices (applies for s2s too) from our section. In band, we develop not only musically-wise, but also character-wise.

Of course, not forgetting your 1st concert in June and JuniorBandFestival. Definitely you will become more bonded, having been through much with the band by then. Like I said, foundation is very important. So while you are a sec1, you are given many chances to explore and have fun, but also to build your foundation. Techniques and playing long notes and doing tonguing excercises for multiple times in a full band practice may not seem as interesting to you, but.. keep in mind that without all of these, music enjoyment is made yet more difficult to attain.

For the sec 2s: POP is exactly 3 weeks away. From then on, you'll be known as official members of the band; privates and cadets. It's your parade, and trust me, people will be looking at you and expecting much. You will have to buck up alot on your drills! Be a role model for your juniors, and make sure you officially make a step into the band with honour. I believe the last thing you want is dissapointment in your parade from the people who have made an effort to find time and watch you. So, everything starts from you, and I strongly, strongly believe that everyone of you in the clarinet section is able to do it, cos' you're a great bunch of people :) As for Special Olympics and the coming events, work hard for it, and remember to work smart as well. Foundation wise you'll have to gain firmer support after having rested for such a long period of time. While you are still a sec2, explore. Trust me, by next year chances are, things might get quite busy for you as well since being a sec3 is no easy job.

For the sec 3s: Definitely I'll need all the help and support I can get from all of you. Of course I believe cooperation is no major problem here, but as sec3s, our foundations, techniques, support, music enjoyment and so-on has to be in place. I believe after such a long rest the fingers are getting stiff and the muscles are beginning to loosen. We are going to be pillars of the section. So, definitely occassional "cracks in the walls" are allowed, but "fix them up" fast. Haha.

Of course, I can't find a nicer word than thank you to Sharlyn, Rachel, Joey, Yuqing and Yeeyong for all the guidance, the fun, the sad and the upcoming leaving-us-blues for all of us (haha). We will do you proud. (:

Lastly, I hope I will be able to serve the section well and under my wing, together with Weilin, Demi, Qianyi and Devin, bring all of you to scale greater heights for the coming year.

So lets work together for a better clarinet section in the future.

Hello.

Okay people, there's 25 more days to our destination (excluding today).
I know many of you are feeling stress out already and with all your grades not up to expectations and pressure from everyone, most of you are drained already.

But, pressure can be a form of motivation too.
It depends on how you all see it.
Just bear with it all for three more weeks, for this last lap of ours before our big day.
Gold With Honours is not everything. It's the process that matters.
& I truly believe, you reap what you sow.

The amount of output depends on the amount of input.
So, please please persevere on and remember everything Sharlyn says.
Don't just keep saying you will do it. SHOW IT to everyone that you are doing it.
Actions speaks louder than words.

I know everyone is busy with this and that, but just sacrifice and concentrate for this period.
There's no free lunches in this world.
The band room we are using now, the buffet clarinets, concert @ Esplanade, trip to NewYork...
Ask yourself, didn't any of you gain from all these benefits?

If you all want the glory but don't want to work hard,
do you think we can get to where we are right now?
Plus, those benefits we got were the hardwork of previous batches.

世上没有不劳而获的事。

We are all trying to reiterate all that had been repeated gazillion times.
Don't be disheartened if you are cut from playing whichever parts.
It's for the good of the band isn't it? Definitely, all of you would have the chance to play.
If it isn't now, it would be some other time.

Some people can't take the stress, and they chose to give up, to quit.
But I am sure, all of you are strong enough to stay on.
Not everybody can be a band member. It's taxing and you need the discipline.

And I hope, all of you can put yourselves in Sharlyn's shoes and try to understand.
She had been really trying her very very best to help all of us.
At least, at the very least we could help, is to DO what she repeated many times when we play.
Being an SL is not easy okay, and I really feel that she had done a really really great job.

She put the section before self and I bet none of you know how much effort she had put in for all of you and how much she love the section.
Maybe at this point of them (esp. the sec 2s) you all won't understand yet.
Two years down the road, you will.

Like it's till now that I finally realise how hard life was for Cheryl back then.

So, jiayou okay!
We can do it.
No matter what kind of problems we are facing,
Remember: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
We are all going through this together as a section, as a band.

Well, I'm here to express my gratitude to everyone for the birthday surprise. (:
I'm sorry for not feeling as surprised/excited and on the verge of crying.
But seriously, thank you. I'm very very very very touched even though I didn't express it well enough. Thank you for making my 16th birthday so meaningful and joyful. :D

Then again, I really thank all of you for the effort you guys put in to make this successful.
And though I knew there might be a celebration, it was purely intuition on my part,
plus I find some of you behaving wierdly. XD Thus, my hunch turns out right! :D

Thank you too, for all the gifts and letters no matter how small,
it is of significance to me and I really appreciated it all. One word: Sincerity.

Though it's one happy day, I still feel sad,
cause being sixteen reminds me that this would be my last year
in Clarinet Section, in Band, in AMKSS....

is that we all know that this period of time to syf is veryvery tough.
and alot of us will feel like giving up, quitting etcetc.
but,
you've already come so far.
it'll be a waste that you give up now.
& everyone will go through this phrase.
like how me,yuqing,yeeyong & rachel have been.
but we managed to stay on.

so jiayous yeah (:
we'll go through this together.
& those who need a listening ear,
i'll always be available.
or you can talk to other clarinetists,
because sharing your problems & feelings will make you feel alot better.
& find your direction again.

& for every obstacle you overcome, you become a stronger person.

Hello people, I'm here to update! :D
Hopefully this blog won't remain too stagnant and become as unwanted as the previous blog.

Christmas is coming; in four days time. :D
And school's re-opening; in 11 days time... (Sorry for spoiling the mood!)
BUT, we still have to face this fact all the same. (Haha)
I'm struggling to complete my homework and it's taking forever. ]:
